The Computing Department offers a challenging and rewarding A Level Computer Science course for pupils wishing to take the subject further.
COMPUTING AT WARWICK
The course builds on the foundations established at GCSE, developing pupils’ understanding of how computer systems work while significantly extending their programming and problem-solving skills.
The department is based in the Masefield Centre and benefits from specialist computer laboratories dedicated to GCSE and A Level study. Teaching places a strong emphasis on practical application, with pupils encouraged to explore concepts through programming, experimentation, and structured investigation.
Course Specification – A Level:
AQA Computer Science (7517) is offered at A Level, providing pupils with the opportunity to develop advanced programming skills alongside a deep theoretical understanding of computer science principles. Pupils study a range of programming paradigms, including object-oriented and functional approaches, and apply these in increasingly sophisticated problem-solving contexts.
The course covers key topics such as data structures, algorithms, databases, networking, and computer systems, with theory regularly reinforced through practical programming tasks. Independent thinking is strongly encouraged, particularly through extended programming work, allowing pupils to develop resilience, precision, and analytical depth.
