Encounters is our weekly programme of thought-provoking talks designed to stretch pupils’ thinking and open windows onto the wider world.
Held from 4.15pm to 5.30pm on Fridays, these sessions bring together pupils from every year group to hear from speakers with remarkable stories, achievements, and perspectives.
The focus is simple: to spark curiosity.
Our speakers come from a wide range of academic disciplines and walks of life, but all share one thing in common – an important story to tell.
Over the years, pupils have enjoyed unforgettable Encounters exploring subjects as diverse as:
- Abraham Lincoln and the shaping of leadership
- Einstein and the frontiers of scientific thought
- The sinking of the Titanic
- The history of trade unionism
- Charles Dickens and Victorian society
- Food and culture in ancient Rome
We have also welcomed Falklands War veterans, Oxford scientists and mathematicians, philosophers, and extraordinary individuals who have shared first-hand testimony of the Holocaust and the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
A community invitation
Encounters is open to all pupils, parents, and staff across the Foundation, and no tickets are required.
Most sessions take place in Warwick School’s Science Lecture Theatre, though larger events — such as those featuring The Rt Hon Michael Heseltine and Richard Blair (son of George Orwell) — are hosted in the King’s High Hall.
Encounters enriches our academic culture, encourages pupils to think deeply about the world around them, and reminds them that learning does not end with the school bell.
